Split System

Split Systems are best suited for heating & cooling individual areas.

There are 2 types of Split Systems;

  1. Cooling Only
  2. Reverse Cycle – Heat & Cool.

There are many different sizes (capacity) to efficiently heat & cool areas of different sizes.

Split systems usually comprise of an outdoor motor & 1 indoor unit.

Cooling Only 

Most systems available today are reverse cycle as the cost difference is minimal. However Cooling Only systems are available.

Cooling systems may be suitable for home / premises that already have a heating system installed but do not have a cooling system. 

Heating & Cooling

Air conditioner units cool by pumping refrigerant around a continuous circuit. If the flow of the refrigerant circuit is reversed, the air conditioner unit heats. Hence the term ‘Reverse Cycle’ for an air conditioner that both heats & cools. Reverse cycle is usually referred to as a ‘Heat Pump’ in other countries.

Reverse cycle air conditioners are most commonly used for cooling a home / premises & the heating component under-utilised. It is a common misconception that using a reverse cycle air conditioner to heat a home / premises is expensive.

However, as the technology of modern air conditioner units enables the system to operate at >300% efficiency, the amount of electricity used is reduced to 1/3 of conventional electric heaters, making reverse cycle air conditioners a very cost effective way to heat a home / premises.

Single Units

Where one room needs to be heated & cooled, a Single Split System can be installed comprising of one outdoor motor that operates the single indoor unit.

Single split systems are available in various sizes to efficiently heat & cool various room sizes. It is extremely important to ensure the correct size unit is selected for the size of the room (e.g. open plan living) to optimise the efficiency of the system & reduce running costs.

Small single split systems are ideal for bedrooms of people who may have specific needs e.g. health conditions or age, where room temperature can have an impact on a person’s comfort. 

Multi Split System

Where multiple rooms need to be heated & cooled, a Multi Split System can be installed comprising of one outdoor motor that operates multiple indoor units.

High Level Wall Models

The most common method of installing a split system air conditioning unit is above head height on a wall.

The main advantage of this style of mounting is that the system does not take up valuable floor space. 

Low Level Wall Models

An alternative to high wall mounted system, a low level system can be mounted on floor or just above floor level & may be most useful under a window where there insufficient high wall space to mount the unit.

An advantage of low level mounted systems is that the unit can be more discrete as the unit can be disguised by well-placed furniture. Another advantage is that heat can be distributed at the floor level. 

Concealed

This unit is concealed within a purpose built bulk head (boxed-in section) of a ceiling or within cabinetry work e.g. wardrobe or pantry. To enable air flow a custom made decorative grill is installed.

Ceiling Mounted Models

There are styles of ceiling mounted models

  1. Ceiling suspended – a unit is mounted to the ceiling instead of being mounted at a high level on the wall. These types of units are most commonly used in commercial / retail premises.
  2. Cassette – this unit is installed within the ceiling space directly behind the ceiling lining e.g. plaster, with a decorative grill in front of the unit to facilitate air flow.
  3. Bulk head – This unit is concealed within a purpose built bulk head (boxed-in section) of a ceiling or within cabinetry work e.g. wardrobe or pantry. To enable air flow a custom made decorative grill is installed. 

Inverter Technology

Outdoor motor automatically varies its speed to maintain the optimal temperature whilst using minimal energy (electricity).

Inverter technology has been proven to use 30% less energy than old technology, making it now a popular choice to upgrade old systems. 

Noise ReductionInverter technology also ensures that both indoor & outdoor units are almost silent.
